Going manual

I'm pushing myself to stay in manual mode more. My new lens, the basic Canon 50 mm 1.8, has been super fun. Last night I played with black and white, balancing shutter speed and aperture. And of course, my kids are stuck being the models. I try to just take pictures of whatever they are already doing and tell them it's my "homework." Which it is!

  2. Rachel I'm excited for your photography blog! I myself am majorly intimidated by manual and probably need to actually read the instruction manual that came with my camera to find out what the heck all the mumbo jumbo at the bottom of the screen means and how to adjust it when I look through the view finder. Photography is EXPENSIVE, that 50mm 1.8 lens seems really reasonable, the problem is I really want a 550 dollar wide angle lens too for cool landscape shots. Sigh. I'll keep dreaming and in the meantime enjoy watching you experiment and learning from it too!

  3. Those are great photos! Way to go sticking yourself a little outside of your comfort zone. We have that lens and it's a great one. I'm slowly slowly slowly learning how to use our camera. Aaron's the one who's good at it.

  4. Rachael, I love these! I had a dream of being a photographer once until I left my nice camera at the airport. I feel sick to my stomach every time I think about it. Maybe I should start dreaming again. What kind of camera do you have?
